Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about insurance, testing, appliances, TMJ, and what treatment actually looks like.
Will my insurance cover treatment?+
We work with many insurance plans, and we verify your benefits before treatment begins, so you'll know what to expect upfront. No insurance? That's fine too — ask us about low monthly payments through Cherry and our other financing partners. Don't let insurance stop you from coming to us. You don't need insurance — care is still affordable even without it.
Do I need a sleep study before I see you?+
No — come as you are. If you've been tested, bring your results. If not, we can coordinate home sleep testing directly, work with your physician, or both — whatever gets you answers fastest, safest.
What if I can't tolerate CPAP?+
Then you're exactly who I built this practice for. Custom oral appliances are the comfortable, portable alternative — no mask, no hose, no machine noise.
Is snoring always sleep apnea?+
Not always. But loud, persistent snoring is one of the most common signs of it, and it always deserves an evaluation — especially with daytime fatigue.
Will I need surgery?+
I focus on non-surgical solutions first, and most patients never need surgery. It's a last resort, not a starting point. We help you understand some of many treatment options available including surgery along with the physician provided diagnosis. We know it can be overwhelming. We will help you navigate all of it, so you can make a decision that feels right for you.
How is your appliance different from a drugstore mouthguard?+
A drugstore guard protects teeth from grinding. My appliances are custom-designed from your anatomy to hold your airway open or reposition your jaw — different device, different job, fitted and followed by a trained dentist.
Are TMJ and ear pain related?+
Often, yes. The jaw joint sits right next to the ear canal, so inflammation there commonly causes ear pain, ringing, or fullness.
Are TMJ, headaches, and sleep disorders connected?+
Very often. Untreated sleep apnea is a known driver of morning headaches and jaw pain — which is why I evaluate all three together.
How long does treatment take?+
After your consultation and fitting, a custom appliance is typically ready in 2–4 weeks, with follow-up visits to dial in comfort and effectiveness.
Do you offer payment plans?+
Yes — low monthly payments through several third-party financing partners. We'll walk through your options at your consultation, so cost never has to be the reason you keep putting off better sleep.
Will I have to take medication?+
Most of my treatments don't require medication. Short-term medication sometimes helps manage TMJ pain while we treat the underlying cause.
